CUSTARD WITHOUT EGG
Milk : 4 cups
Sugar : 8 to 10 tablespoons
Custard powder : 4 tablespoons
Essence of your choice : 1 teaspoon
A few drops colour
Keep some milk aside. Boil the remaining milk. Add the sugar and custard powder to the milk kept aside. Mix well. Then keep the gas on slow flame & add the custard mix & stir continuosly on gentle flame for a few minutes till mixture is thick . Add the essence and colour. Keep to cool.
Note: Different company brands may require different quantity of custard powder to be added to the milk. This is the basic recipe.You may add/ less depending on the brand's requirements.
EASY EGG CUSTARD
3/4th cup sugar
A pinch salt
1 tsp. vanilla/ a dash of nutmeg
2 cups scalded milk
Preheat oven to 300 o F/150 o C. Beat eggs, sugar, salt and vanilla, mix well. Gradually add scalded milk, blending well. Pour into lightly greased pudding dish or 4 custard cups. Place dish or cups in a pan of hot water and bake for 1 hour. Custard is finished when a knife inserted comes out clean. Sprinkle with nutmeg.
Alternatively, You may pour the mixture in an uncooked pie shell. Bake in uncooked pie shell for 45 minutes at 350 o F/ 180 o C.
